Meta Outlines New Policies for Businesses Looking to Advertise & Sell on its Platforms

Facebook/Meta had a wild 2021. From whistleblowers to a name change, the platform has been making some giant shifts. As it continues leaning into online shopping, Meta shared a reminder of its various eCommerce and shopping policies for all businesses and individuals looking to sell products and services across Meta apps.   • All sellers are required to adhere to Meta’s Commerce Policies, which outline the requirements and obligations for Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram sellers

  • Those looking to advertise on Meta’s platforms must follow its documented ‘Commercial Terms’ which relates to commercial rights, data collection and adherence to local laws

  • Sellers must agree to Meta’s Merchant Agreement, which details product safety, tax obligations, payments, and more

  • Meta has specific policies and regulations on the types of ads that it will allow and products ineligible for promotion, as well as data use in ad targeting and transparency

  • Meta’s Pages, Groups and Events Policies relate to app-usage, with regulations on impersonation, promotions (including competitions), and representation within their apps

  • Finally, all users need to follow Facebook’s ‘Community Standards’ and Instagram’s ‘Community Guidelines,’ which relate to general usage behaviors and what is and is not allowed in each app

These policies have been updated to account for Meta's name change and is inclusive of all its apps. Meta has also removed a range of detailed ad targeting options, targeting categories relating to sensitive topics such as options referencing causes, organizations, or public figures that relate to health, race/ethnicity, political affiliation, religion or sexual orientation.
